We’ve made a number of improvements to our Career Coach tool, which we think will really benefit our customers, and even more crucially, their end users: learners and prospective learners. There are five changes that we want to tell you about, plus a reminder of a fantastic facility that has been available for some time, but which only a few of our customers are currently using.
Improvement 1: Custom URLS
First off, we have added custom URLs into the site, which give you the ability to add a link in the main header to a website of your choice. What this means is that you can now have much better connectivity back to your website or even to additional online resources. In the example below, you’ll see that we have put a link to an “Online Learning Platform”, which is something that could well prove crucial at this time when remote learning has increased massively:
Improvement 2: White Labelling
Until now, all Career Coach users have been greeted with the “Welcome to Career Coach” line at the top of the landing page. But to help you make the connection between your website and the portal as seamless as possible, we have now added a function that allows you to change the name to one of your choosing, and so helps you to keep consistent branding and messaging throughout. In our example below, we have changed it to “Emsi College”, and this wording also updates in emails, too:
Improvement 3: Schools Capture
We have also added a new card at the beginning of the Career Assessment section of the tool, which is designed to capture the school of the user taking the test. This feature enables your college to capture more analytics, but without the end user having to sign up or sign in to their profile. In turn, this can provide a wealth of opportunities for targeted marketing based on aggregate assessment results:
Improvement 4: Course Info Shortcuts
This new feature adds shortcut buttons to the course card found under a careers page. What this means is that users can jump straight from a careers page in Career Coach to the course page on the colleges website without having the additional steps involved. Again, this is all aimed at improving the connectivity and seamless interaction with your main website:
Improvement 5: Scottish Qualifications
One final improvement to the tool, which will excite our customers north of the border, is that we are adding in the SCQF levels into Career Coach, and these will appear next to their UK equivalent in all of the education level packets.
Finally, now seems like a good time to remind our customers and those looking at Career Coach as a possible solution of another facility that has been offered as part of Career Coach for some time, but which is still very much underused. This is the “reskinning” facility, which basically means that the whole site can be cloned, and then used to create standalone sites for local schools, using their branding, logo, and social media links.
What this means is that if a college or a university wants to take the tool into schools in their area, they can do so by effectively creating a series of individual sites, which all link to the local Labour Market Insight in Career Coach, and which crucially point pupils to courses offered by the provider, which can help them get into the career they are interested in. This really is a great way of not only enabling schools in your area to use the tool as a careers resource, especially in schools engagement sessions, but also of promoting your institution as a gateway to a career. Even more excitingly, this also means that you can track insights from those schools over time, such as top viewed careers and courses. Below is an example from the Apprenticeship page of the site set up at Bishop Fox’s school in Taunton:
