Our new report into the potential risks and opportunities that automation is bringing to Britain’s labour market — AutoNation — paints a very different picture than many of the scare stories we often hear in the media. Whereas the assumption is often made that automation replaces jobs, our report takes the view that actually automation replaces tasks, which means that although jobs might end up being replaced, it isn’t necessarily so. Historically, automation has led to jobs changing, new work being created, and an increase in productivity, and as we explain in our report, there is every reason to suppose that automation today has the same potential.
