In our recent series — Three Steps to a More Relevant Curriculum — we demonstrated how Labour Market Insight (LMI) can be used by education providers to rise to the challenge of developing course provision that is both better aligned to the skills needs of employers, and which is likely to produce better employment outcomes for learners. What we didn’t show in that series, however, is how providers can actually achieve this simply, quickly and effectively.
Introducing Course Vision
We are very pleased to say that we have just launched a new online tool that will enable any education provider to do just this. Course Vision combines granular LMI for your region with an easy-to-use interface, helping you to adjust your existing provision and develop new course areas to better reflect skills demand.
The tool, which has been developed after consultation with a number of thought-leaders in the education sector, contains the following reports:
Curriculum Overview Report: Allows you to upload completions data, then compares it against regional job openings to show areas of oversupply, undersupply and the potential for new courses.
Course Area Snapshot: Enables you to drill into a particular course area to find out more insight on the occupations and industries in your region that are connected to it.
Business Case Report: Provides you with a deep dive of the skills needs of employers in your area, enabling you to build a strong business case for developing new courses or changing existing ones.
Using Course Vision will give you:
• Evidence that your courses are well aligned with employer demand.
• Assurance that you are fulfilling your mission and using public funds effectively.
• Confidence that your provision is closing the skills gap and improving employability.
