On 27th February, the Collab Group held a reception to promote the results of our recent research looking into the economic impact created by the Group’s 35 member colleges. The impressive results revealed in the final report — Creating Opportunity: The Economic Value of Collab Group Colleges — ensured that the event was well attended by a wide array of stakeholders, including from Government and industry.
The colleges within the group are some of the leading FE providers in the country, and our research clearly shows that as they seek to deliver the technical and professional skills that drive economic growth and productivity, they are having a huge impact on the UK economy. As the Group’s CEO, Ian Pretty noted:
“We always knew our members had a huge impact on the sector and on the economy of this country, but the actual impact we found is staggering. Working with local and national employers, and using key government priority areas, our members are transforming the FE sector, they are transforming industries, they are transforming the lives of their learners, and they are transforming the economy; we are delighted that our study with Emsi gives us the evidence to support the good work our colleges are already doing.”
However, as impressive as the results of the study are, the purpose of the research is not simply to measure past impact. Just as importantly, they also provide a demonstration of the huge potential for the colleges to work even closer with other stakeholders and regional partners, to improve growth and productivity in the future. As Collab’s Head of External Relations, Amy Fowler observed:
“Our members bring an unmatched expertise to the issues facing the skills sector and through collaboration with government and business we can advance meaningful and positive answers. We want business, government, and the skills sector to know that we are ready and able to work together. Our study with Emsi increases our credibility and awareness of who we are and what amazing things our colleges can do.”
