We were pleased to welcome a range of FE Colleges to our lively and interactive event at Walsall College on 19th September. Established customers including Walsall College and the Lakes College gave a valuable insight into the tangible impact our systems (Analyst and Career Coach) are having on their curriculum planning, marketing and student services functions.
Jayne Holt, Assistant Principal for Learning Services at Walsall College gave a fascinating insight into their recent Ofsted inspection, describing their use of LMI as “forensic”. She especially highlighted Analyst as a method for gaining insight into the future of the labour market in the Black Country, which has since been used to aid course planning. For example, in the area around Walsall College, hospital activities have been growing substantially, which has led the College to respond accordingly by focusing on that area in their course offering. Career Coach has also been valuable to the College as a way for learners to take ownership of their career goals.

In addition, Jim Busher, Deputy Principal for Lakes College and NAMSS Chair, gave a presentation on the College’s use of Career Coach. As the economy in West Cumbria is heavily dependent on the energy sector (thanks to the Sellafield nuclear facility), the College realised that learners who received training in engineering occupations stood a much greater chance of progressing on to employment. After embedding local LMI into their marketing materials, the College saw the percentage of learners who progressed from application to enrolment increase 17 per cent. Once prospective learners saw the career opportunities that awaited them, they were far more likely to enrol at Lakes College.

Our newest Midlands customers who include South and City College Birmingham, Bournville College, Newcastle Under Lyme College and City of Wolverhampton College had the opportunity to discuss implementation plans and to identify the key performance indicators that will enable them to measure the benefits of using our Labour Market Intelligence.
Prospective Colleges benefited from peer to peer discussion and a demonstration of both Analyst and Career Coach, enabling them to return to their Colleges equipped with “real life” scenarios that illustrate the many benefits of our tools.
