Cadets at Southampton Solent University were given a peek into their future employment possibilities last week when they were introduced to Career Coach.
The Solent University outreach team, in partnership with CVQO, gave over 200 cadets a tour of their Career Coach software. Lizzi Brazier, Outreach Officer said:
Career Coach is about information, advice and guidance to help young people make the right choices for themselves by looking at the options available and we’ve developed Career Coach to allow them to do research into different jobs and courses.
The tool is proving helpful to the cadets. One commented that it was far more helpful than the normal careers advice that one receives at college. The cadets were impressed with the way that Career Coach links careers to specific courses and also provides details on the labour market, the growth or decline of the chosen career and the wages they could expect to earn. A cadet who plans on going into the music industry had this to say:
When I’ve looked before, it’s very hard to find a search engine or something that can just easily point you in the right direction or the right course and I think that [Career Coach] is an amazing help… I think it’s a good thing that helps people find out what they really want to do.
This is yet another example of how the right information can be so useful to young people who are unsure about their career plans. When you have good data at your fingertips, you are that much more prepared to make an informed decision about your future.
