Harnessing Labour Market Intelligence to Inform, Develop and Support
Now in its second successful year as Birmingham’s biggest College, South and City College Birmingham offers in the region of 25,000 students a choice from hundreds of courses from it’s nine campuses around the City.
With provision ranging from Apprentices through to adult learning and Higher Education, South and City College Birmingham is the only college in Birmingham to be awarded Beacon status in recognition of excellence and innovation.
To facilitate the growth in success rates and as a demonstration of the College’s commitment to meeting the needs of students and business partners, South and City College Birmingham has recently purchased two tools from EMSI, a leading provider of on-line labour market intelligence specialising in the FE sector.
“We are going to use Analyst – EMSI’s labour market intelligence tool – to help us ensure that the courses we offer will enable our students to enter employment in industries that are showing healthy growth” explains Dawn Ward, Assistant Principal for Planning, Information, Funding and Performance.
Analyst will play a role in our decision making process and help steer the strategic direction of the College”
“In today’s economic climate, it is of vital importance that we equip students with the skills, knowledge and abilities that will help them make a positive contribution to their local community. Analyst will play a role in our decision making process and help steer the strategic direction of the College”.
Taking data from a range of politically neutral and nationally recognised sources, Analyst is used by FE Colleges in curriculum planning, bid writing, OFSTED inspection and employer engagement, and with a range of stakeholders to inform, communicate and influence.
South and City College Birmingham has also purchased Career Coach – EMSI’s marketing and student services tool.
“Developing a Career Coach site will mean both existing and potential students can make direct links to the careers they are interested in, and see how our courses can help them achieve their goals,” said Mark Knight, Director of Marketing & International.
“In conjunction with our Student Services team, we will use Career Coach to give vibrant and relevant information that is easily accessible whilst simultaneously marketing our provision to potential students across the City and beyond.”
