EMSI’s economic expert Hamilton Galloway has been featured in City & Guild’s April newsletter on the construction sector. Hamilton’s analysis of the sector suggested that construction may actually see a recovery:
As with much of the British economy, the sector is showing signs of recovery and employment is picking up. Forecasts suggest employment in the construction sector will grow steadily through to 2016, although nowhere near the employment levels of 2008.
In the face of this imminent growth in the construction sector, companies need to ensure they have sufficient numbers of skilled workers, which means that learning providers must make sure that their courses train learners to meet the needs of the industry.
City & Guilds’ Customer Strategy and Planning Manager, Rob May, responded to Hamilton’s analysis of the sector:
With this in mind, we do need to be equipping young people with relevant skills now, in order to maximise the opportunities that may present themselves in the near future.
