Walsall College has become the source of best practice for FE colleges across the nation. A user of both Analyst and Career Coach, Walsall College is the first general FE college to be awarded the Ofsted grade of outstanding. Since Ofsted’s biting review of FE colleges a few weeks ago, colleges and schools have been sitting on pins and needles, waiting to be evaluated. The new framework for inspection has proved quite rigorous, as some colleges that were rated outstanding under the previous framework have seen their grades drop significantly under their most recent Ofsted evaluation.
Not only has Walsall College achieved an outstanding grade overall, but more specifically, the College achieved outstanding for quality of teaching, learning and assessment, a category that usually limits the overall grade.
“Our aim now is to continue to embed further improvements and ensure more students in the community are able to access the outstanding education and resources available at Walsall College to set them on their chosen career paths” Principal Jatinder Sharma said.
Current students and new students looking to join us in September can be confident that they will be studying at a forward-thinking college highly recognised by Ofsted, for not only producing excellent results, but also for making sure students graduate with the qualifications needed to progress to higher education or the skills required in the workplace.
From the report itself:
- The college is an integral part of the local community and works in very strong partnership with key organisations for the benefit of students and for the regeneration of the borough. The college performs a key role, in collaboration with other local stakeholders, in encouraging employers into the area, and is very responsive to meeting their training needs. The college makes excellent use of labour market intelligence to ensure that the curriculum meets local, regional and national socio-economic needs.
Walsall College has had great success in meeting the needs of its learners. This is exactly what EMSI would like to do for FE colleges across the nation. Our products can give colleges an edge on the labour market, which could result in more colleges who achieve outstanding in future Ofsted reports.
Walsall’s success was also covered in FE Week.
